The 4-Level South Bay Replacement Hospital in Harbor City, California has replaced the existing single story north hospital. The 280,000-sf, four-level building is sited adjacent to the existing South Tower and will connect to it at all levels. The project’s design meets the new seismic requirements for all general acute-care California hospitals imposed by Senate Bill 1953 as well as the new 2007 CBC.
The Geotechnical design services included field investigation, laboratory testing, foundation design, retaining wall design and asphalt design, as well as value engineering.
Some of the geotechnical challenges on this project include the presence of an existing hospital tower and limited access to the project site.
We have also provided geotechnical observation and testing for Phase 1 of the project which included drilled caissons. Cross hole sonic logging was performed to evaluate the integrity of the caissons.
